Syd's Place

An Old Town Oasis

48 Hours in Fort Collins: Trails, Treats & Sauna Time

Fort Collins is a town that knows how to move and how to rest. From wildflower hikes to river trail rides and soul-soothing sunsets, it’s the kind of place that fills your cup without ever feeling rushed. Whether you're a weekend visitor or a local looking to slow down, this guide brings you two days of adventure, flavor, and full-body reset.

At Syd’s Place, we believe that every good trip needs a little sweat, a little spice, and a whole lot of calm. Here’s how to do Fort Collins in 48 hours.

Day One: Canyon Views, Cold Brews, and a Sauna Wind Down

Morning: Coffee & Climb

Start your day early with a stop at Howling Cow Café, tucked into Morning Fresh Dairy Farm on your way up the canyon. Fuel up with a strong coffee, a house-baked pastry, and maybe even a chocolate milk (because why not?)—all made with the freshest local ingredients.

From there, head to the trailhead for Grey Rock, one of Fort Collins’ most iconic hikes. This 7.5-mile loop offers rocky scrambles, lush forest, and panoramic views of the Poudre Canyon. It’s a heart-pumping challenge and a true Colorado classic.

* Trail Tip: Start early, especially in warmer months. Pack water, sunscreen, and layers—it gets exposed near the top.

Afternoon: Clean Up & Chill at Syd’s Place

Back in town, it’s time to rinse off the trail dust. Step into the shower, wrap up in one of our soft Turkish towels, and drop into full relaxation mode. Feeling the hike in your legs? Fire up the sauna in the backyard. The deep, soothing heat helps your muscles recover, your mind reset, and your whole system slow down.

* Sauna Insight: Alternating hot sauna sessions with cold rinses can boost circulation, reduce inflammation, and promote deep calm.

Evening: Dinner at the New Choice City

Dinner plans? Walk or drive into Old Town and grab a table at the newly renovated Choice City Butcher & Deli. Known for its legendary burgers, rotating craft beers, and no-frills charm, it’s the perfect place to refuel and toast a day well spent.

Rest before the final push

Day Two: Bikes, Pies, and a Sunset Picnic

Morning: Roll to Laporte

Start slow, sip some coffee at the house, then rent a cruiser or e-bike from Recycled Cycles or Trek Bicycle Fort Collins in Old Town. From there, hop on the Poudre River Trail and ride west. The flat, winding path takes you through cottonwoods, along the river, and eventually—about seven scenic miles later—into the little town of Laporte.

Afternoon: Pie & Pints

Once in Laporte, make your first stop Me Oh My Pie for something sweet and homemade. Quiche, coffee, or a slice of pie—whatever you choose, it’s cozy and made with care.

Then, head next door to Swing Station, a true locals’ bar with strong drinks, outdoor tables, and live music if you're lucky. It’s casual, colorful, and pure FoCo charm.

* Bike Tip: Lock up your ride, kick back in the shade, and let time slow down.

Evening: Takeout + Sunset + Sauna

Before heading back to the house, swing by Gelato & aMore for rustic Italian takeout—think handmade lasagna, creamy pesto pasta, and decadent gelato. Pack it up and head to your sunset spot.

We love Bingham Hill for peaceful vibes and wide-open views, or Duncan’s Ridge for a dramatic perch above Horsetooth Reservoir. Bring your food, a blanket, and settle in. It’s one of the best ways to close out a day—watching the sun drop behind the mountains with Italian takeout in hand.

Night: Sauna Session at Syd’s Place

Back home, it’s time to step into the warmth. The sauna at Syd’s Place is your final ritual: soothing sore muscles, helping your body recover from the ride, and inviting your mind to let go of everything else.

Pair it with a cold rinse, deep breaths, and maybe even a starry sky.

* Why it works: The contrast of movement and rest, heat and cool, nature and comfort—that’s the magic. And that’s what Syd’s Place is all about.
